NMR Metabolomics and Fluxomics Workshop

Next offering: In-person meetings were cancelled throughout 2020-2022 due to the pandemic; next possible offerings are February 2025 and February 2027 (3-4 days)

Location: AMRIS Facility, University of Florida, Gainesville, Florida
Leaders: Matthew Merritt & Bill Brey (TDP1)
Last offered: May 7-11, 2018 – Find a summary here

13C/2H/15N detected solution NMR

The focus of this hands-on workshop is on making samples, data collection and analysis for metabolomics research. Participants will be introduced to various NMR experiments and software packages developed for metabolomics and structural biology, databases for depositing NMR data, and best practices for disseminating data.

Goals:

  • Learn best practices for biomolecular applications of solution NMR
  • Develop a working knowledge of NMR probe technology and factors affecting their performance characteristics
  • Appreciate the various factors affecting sensitivity and resolution at high magnetic fields for different NMR active nuclei.

May 2018 workshop summary

The inaugural metabolomics workshop was held May 7-11, 2018 at the AMRIS Facility at the University of Florida. Attendance was limited to six external participants for the lab portion. Participants collected NMR data using 500 and 600 MHz instruments equipped with a variety of NMR probes, including solution 1H and 13C data for metabolomics and metabolic flux analysis, respectively; HRMAS spectra of tissue samples; in vivo MRS spectra using voxel-localized spectroscopy; and saw a demonstration of dissolution DNP.

Lecture and data analysis discussions were opened to additional local students and postdocs Lectures featured NMR Probes BTRR faculty and NMRBox BTRR faculty; data analysis portions were led by local postdocs specializing in metabolomics and metabolic flux analysis.
